Dancing has been Marissa’s passion since the age of 6 when she began with the styles Jazz and Tap. From this age Marissa worked hard at mastering these styles and underwent many examinations passing with honours and high distinctions. Marissa started with The Dance Collective in 2007 and it has been her home away from home ever since. It is here that she decided to branch in to the new styles of Contemporary, Hip Hop and Ballet. Through Marissa’s dedication and hard work she was nominated to win the Jazz scholarship in 2011. To further her training Marissa has participated in many dance workshops with local and international choreographers including Jemma Armstrong, Jason Beitel, Michael Schwandt, Reed luplau and Saidah Nairobi. Marissa believes that dancing is an art that everybody should experience and was delighted when she was asked to be a teacher at The Dance Collective as she is now able to share this art others. Marissa acknowledges that dance allows people to grow not only in technique, but also in confidence and self-esteem and as a teacher she aims to help students grow into the best person they can be.
