New Yoga Classes

In today's busy world, more than any other time there is a need for us to slow the pace, calm our mind and be more present. There is now a vast amount of research on the benefits yoga has on stress and anxiety levels as well as many other health benefits including lowering blood pressure, reducing cholesterol, improved concentration and reduced back and neck pain.

We are excited to announce TDC will now be holding weekly Yoga classes! Alex teaches in the style of Vinyasa Flow and classes will be open to all levels. Perfect for parents, university students and shift workers.

Five Class Pass: $90
Ten Class Pass: $150

TDC's Take Two HOPE Fundraiser Workshops

TDC's fundraising branch HOPE (Helping Other People Everywhere) is getting behind one of our most loved company members Courtney Giblett who is shaving her beautiful blonde locks, all to fundraise money for a charity that means a lot to her.

Courtney lost her mother to a rare form of cancer three years ago and is now aiming to raise $15,000 to build a transitional clinic for “Sock it to Sarcoma”. Read her heartfelt story below.

We are so thankful we have a team of generous choreographers who are willing to donate their time to offer the Perth public a fun night of hip hop workshops with all money raised going towards Courtney's fundraising event.

Courtney’s story …

I'm having a Britney Spears meltdown and shaving all my hair off...not really...but kind of!

Some of you would know that in 2010 I lost my mum to Leiomyosarcoma (a long, scary, foreign word!) This type of cancer is rare and aggressive. So in comparison to other cancers there is less information and when it does hit the chances of survival aren't as high. The traumatic 18-month journey is something I would hate anyone else to go through. However due to the lack of research and facilities people still lose to this horrible disease.

Recently I came across "Sock It to Sarcoma" - a foundation inspired by a girl I used to go to school with. This foundation has phenomenal goals, they're really "reaching for stars!"

The goal closest to my heart would be the establishment of a transitional clinic. A clinic where the fantastic team of specialists required to treat Sarcoma's, specifically, are based in one location (as opposed to running all over the place for different appointments).

The diagnosis, treatment and rehabilition of Sarcomas will be more efficient, effective and hopefully kinder to the body.

The clinic will provide further information on Sarcomas, support networks for the family and some well-deserved pampering for the patient. Even if the journey doesn't end the way we would like, the patient who could be your mum, your brother, your best friend, your partner will have the care they deserve.

So on June 20, my mums birthday, I'll be shaving my noggin' for her, for future patients and this fantastic foundation so please get on board!

    TDC Showreel on YouTube

The magic of TDC has been captured in an inspiring and insightful short film which now appears on You Tube. A huge thank you to talented film maker Jeremy Tan (also younger brother to our Assistant Director Andrea Chan!) who created this film. Take a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2nKdyRW_N0. We are very proud.

    Winter Uniform

During the colder months technique dancers (Ballet, Jazz & Contemporary) are able to wear a black fitted long sleeve top over the top of their leotards to keep warm. We are now in Term 2 and noticing the standard of appearances is dropping. To keep up professionalism, please ensure all hair is tied back and no jewelry is worn to class.

    Welcome new teachers!

A very warm and special welcome to our teachers who are new to our TDC Team:

Linda Giachetta - Dancehall Scholarship 2011 winner has now stepped up to a new teaching position taking a Beginner Dancehall class on a Wednesday 715pm.

Hayley Schmidt - Buzz Dance Theatre company member is taking the Senior Ballet & Pointe classes Thursdays 6.15pm

Gracia Soh - long time TDC dancer and Lyrical Scholarship winner 2010 is taking Pre- Junior Hip Hop on Saturdays 315pm.

Ashlee-Jane Robinson – ex STEPS Company Member and ballet trained Ashlee is taking our Junior Ballet class on a Saturday.

    Farewell Kane Morriss

Kane Morriss, TDC's first ever Executive Assistant and past teacher is heading over to North America for a travel holiday. Recently Kane has helped to organise our fabulous 10 Year Anniversary Party and implemented our new studio management software system. Although we will miss him dearly, we wish him all the very best and can't wait to hear how his time at summer camp in the USA goes!

    Entertainment books for HOPE

Entertainment books are here! Each book is $65, $13 from each book (i.e. all profits) will go towards the Cystic Fibrosis Association.

Support our HOPE (Helping Other People Everywhere) – TDC's fundraising initiative. Let's get together and help others in need.

6.15pm Pick Up Parents & Parking

We would like to ask parents; if possible, to not "drive through" from 6.15pm to pick up your children as it creates traffic jam in the car park. Also please refrain from using the TDC parking areas during this time to wait for your children as our older dancers then cannot find a car park and have to park far away. This is unsafe as most of them finish late and still have to walk back to their cars. We have had break ins in the past and are now very mindful of their safety. There are ample car parks available at the Community Centre, Library and Primary School you are welcome to use. We would very much appreciate your consideration for our dancers, thank you so much for your cooperation.

    Teachers leaving and joining

Founding company member Erin Tyrie is leaving in August to go on a working holiday to the UK. Sadly she leaves her Pre-Junior Hip Hop & Kidz Club and Pre-Junior Jazz classes. In her replacement we have TDC dancers Emily Collins taking on Erin's Jazz classes and Jessica Greaves working with her Pre-Junior Hip Hop class. Erin has been a member of TDC for 9 years and we will miss her lovely presence in our studio over the next year (or two). Good luck Erin. We wish you all the best and know that TDC is here to welcome you with open arms when you return.

Welcome also to Safiya Karolia, TDC member for 6 years who will be the new Junior Experienced Jazz teacher and well respected ballet dancer Deanna Greenhalgh teaching Pre-Kidz and Kidz Ballet classes on Mondays.

Your help needed to make Charisse the 2011 Australian of the Year

    Dear all

It is my great privilege to advise you all that Charisse has been nominated for "Australia's Local Hero" - which is a subset of the 2011 Australian of the Year Awards. If you believe she deserves it as much as we do, here's your chance to help us strengthen our case!

Send a testimonial via email or mail to me (see below for addresses), telling YOUR personal story of how Charisse and TDC has helped you overcome difficult times or personal tragedies, and how they have helped you to become the fantastic person you are now! The more emotional and inspirational the story, the better! Please also invite your parents to write in too. I have already received a number of testimonials written by students and parents, and it has been an honour to read such amazing and moving stories.

Letters will remain private and confidential with the exception of being sent to the Australian of the Year selection panel, as well as to Charisse and the TDC instructors in due course. We all know the hard work and dedication that Charisse and the TDC team does and the positive impact they have on each and every student. This is your opportunity to let them know exactly how much of a difference they have made to your life. With your input, I am very confident we will have a strong enough submission to make the judges stop and take notice!!!

    Best wishes
