Vanessa has been trained in the ancient classical Indian dance form Bharathnatayam from the age of five. Since childhood Vanessa has showcased her Indian dance at various cultural events, weddings, balls, charities and festivals. By the age of 21 Vanessa, along with a small group of her peers, had created and become well known for their contemporary Indian style where the essence of classical Indian dance was fused with western dance and music. The aim of creating this new genre was to mirror the groups own context of being brought up in Australia while still keeping their Indian roots. Since then Vanessa continues to conduct various cultural dance workshops at highschools as well as being a qualified instructor in dance for the Active After Schools Communities program for the Department of Sport and Recreation. At the age of 20 Vanessa joined TDC's Jamaican Dancehall class. Feeling that it had many similarities to the energetic movements of South Indian folk dancing, Vanessa fell in love with the style and has never looked back. She has performed through TDC at charities and as a member of the Breast Cancer Society's "Purple Boot Brigade" and has recently choreographed and performed for the Perth School Ball Expo. In 2009 Vanessa won the Dancehall scholarship and continues to incorporate the earthy style of dancehall in all facets of her choreography.
